National Ploughing Championships 2018

open eir are delighted to once again be the official communications partner at the 2018 NPC

Last Wednesday #Ploughing18 officially kicked off with the media launch in Screggan, County Offaly. The National Ploughing Championships is Europe’s largest outdoor event. This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, September 18th to Thursday, September 20th.  The total attendance figures for the 2017 Championships came to 291,500 with over 1,700 exhibitors. This made it the most successful National Ploughing Championships in history.

The transformation is well underway with trackway being laid by the open eir networks team to provide connectivity to the site. A big thanks to the whole team for helping to transform Screggan’s green field site into the bustling hub it will soon become later this month.

Eavann Murphy, Managing Director at open eir expressed her enthusiasm in being involved in this year’s championships, “We are delighted to once again be the official communications partner at the 2018 National Ploughing Championships.

“The event is a major highlight in the farming calendar for thousands of people across Ireland and we are looking forward to being part of that again this year; open eir has strong ties to communities across rural Ireland and we continue to invest significantly in communications and broadband networks right across the country.

“We have now completed almost two thirds of our fibre to the home rural rollout, an investment programme funded entirely by eir. An additional 30,000 premises will also be passed as part of this rollout, meaning that by June 2019, eir will have passed 330,000 rural homes and businesses with super-fast broadband throughout Ireland,” she noted.

“We hope our sponsorship will also help improve the quality of experience for visitors through our investment in technology at the championships, including our wifi hotspots on site,” Murphy stressed.
